# Wolf microwave drawer will not open

### The fastest diagnosis is the code

Cut power at the breaker for thirty seconds. A drawer that has lost track of where it is often re-finds itself on a restart, and that costs nothing to try.

### The extra way a drawer can fail

A drawer microwave has to open and close itself, which is one more mechanism than a built-in has. That is where most of what we are called out for lives — the drive and the switches that report the drawer’s position — and it is genuinely good news, because it is a mechanical repair on an appliance whose cooking side is untouched.

The motor and gearing that move the drawer. The genuine failure on this appliance.

A position switch

The drawer moves and nothing reports where it got to, so the control stops it. A switch rather than a motor, and a cheaper repair.

Something in the travel

A dish that has shifted, or spillage in the runner. Worth looking at before anybody is called.

A drawer that responds to nothing at all, with no sound of anything trying.

Does anything try to move. A motor working against a jam sounds completely different from silence.

Breaker off thirty seconds

It re-establishes where the drawer is.

Look into the gap

With a flashlight, for anything in the runner.

Note where it stops

Always the same point is mechanical; a different point each time is the sensing.

A mechanism, not a microwave

What it usually means

Drawer that will not open at all

Travel that stops part-way

A drawer that opens and will not close
